Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)

PROVIDING A RESPECTFUL HEALING ENVIRONMENT 24 HOURS A DAY

PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY SERVICES (PES)

PES is a 24/7 care center that uses the best practices in psychiatric care to help individuals manage psychiatric emergencies, stabilize crises and return safely to the community.

St. Vincent Charity’s PES team welcomes walk-ins as well as referrals from most area hospitals and mental health facilities for adult clients experiencing psychiatric emergency situations. It serves as a crisis center, providing a safety net for thousands of patients annually who need immediate behavioral health care in an emergency setting.

The PES unit has been designed to provide a respectful healing environment for patients, faithful to St. Vincent Charity’s mission of faith-based care. Private exam rooms allow for better communication between clinical staff and patients in support of that healing process. The unit includes five acute treatment rooms, two non-acute rooms for more stable patients on 23-hour observation, a lounge for patients and visitors, interview rooms and staff offices.

Caregivers provide immediate care for persons in psychiatric crisis. The team works together to gather information, provide crisis intervention and use medications, if necessary. Individuals are then referred to outpatient services, a crisis stability unit, inpatient hospitals or specialized service providers.
