The Deaf Access Program

Welcoming all individuals who are D/deaf or hard of hearing

The Deaf Access Program

Effective communication with your doctor and your medical care team is very important to your good health. For individuals who are D/deaf or hard of hearing, St. Vincent Charity Hospital’s Deaf Access Program provides important communication tools from the front door and throughout your visit to the Hospital.

Through the Deaf Access Program, St. Vincent Charity Hospital’s team of doctors, nurses and support staff have the training and tools to communicate with individuals who are D/deaf or hard of hearing, providing patients with access to:

  • 24-hour, on-staff interpreting
  • Video relay
  • Picture/communication boards
  • Assistive listening devices, including portable TTYs and amplifiers
  • Lighted sensors in inpatient rooms to alert D/deaf patients when someone is about to enter
  • ADA-compliant technology in inpatient rooms
  • Deaf-friendly point-of-access signage
