Wound Care Center

Wound Care Center

As part of the Center for Vascular Health at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center , the Wound Care Center provides comprehensive care for patients with recurring or hard-to-heal wounds.

Many problem wounds are caused by complications from diabetes and other chronic medical conditions, trauma or surgery, radiation therapy, medication, ulcerated varicose veins and pressure sores. Untreated, recurring or hard-to-heal wounds can lead to infection, serious illness, amputation and even death.

Since wound care involves the vascular system, the Wound Care Center utilizes the expertise of an integrated team of highly skilled specialists, including vascular specialists, internal medicine specialists, infections control physicians, surgeons, plastic surgeons, podiatrists, as well as nurses, dietitians, and case managers.

Employing the latest advancements and therapies, the team collaborates with patients and their primary care physicians to treat problem wounds. Advanced wound care treatments may include:

  • Hyperbaric (oxygen) therapy
  • Wound protection and dressing
  • Non-invasive vascular testing
  • Debridement
  • Edema (swelling) control
  • Revascularization
  • Orthotics
