Healthy Artery Program

The Healthy Artery Program (HAP) is a free screening program within the Center of Vascular Health at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center . The Healthy Artery Program provides screenings to assess patients' artery health and identify those with occult vascular disease who have not yet been diagnosed. The HAP team members work with at-risk patients and their physicians to prevent future cardiovascular events.

People at high risk for vascular disease include individuals:

  • Living with diabetes
  • Who have had previous cardiac disease
  • Age 50 or older with at least one risk factor for heart disease, such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or being overweight

A screening through the Healthy Artery Program involves an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) - a fast, pain-free test that measures blood pressure in the arms and legs.

After assessment, patients may be referred to one of the other Center for Vascular Health programs for further screenings or treatment.
