Lifestyle Education and Action Program (LEAP)
Whether you’re interested in improving your quality
of life or getting ready for surgical weight loss, the
Center for Bariatric Surgery at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center can help — with a medical weight
loss program designed to provide a fitness and nutrition
jumpstart to a new, healthier you.
Introducing the Program Created Just for You.
In a world of “one-size-fits-all,” our program
is custom-tailored according to your metabolism —
an individualized approach that places you in control
of improving your health and body weight, for life.
Developed by Our Weight Loss Experts
Based on extensive experience helping more than 6,500 patients
collectively lose more than 650,000 pounds, and counting,
the Center for Bariatric Surgery has learned
that there aren’t any “quick-fix”
solutions to losing weight; Rather, long-term weight
loss requires permanent lifestyle changes. Through this
program, our multidisciplinary medical team of physicians,
psychologists, dietitians and physical therapists will
provide education, support and guidance, giving you
the fundamental building blocks for optimal health.
A Comprehensive Program
LEAP is an intensive, interactive program that meets once a week for 12 weeks. The program employs a multidisciplinary
team approach and recognizes the physical and psychological
needs of each individual. Components include:
- A private assessment with a physician to learn about
your health status and clear you for participation.
Follow up appointments may be recommended, including
base-line blood chemistry.
- A private assessment with a dietitian and physical
therapist to set individualized short and long term
goals
- Accurate measurement of your resting metabolic rate
with MedGem technology
- Body fat analysis with infrared spectometer technology
- Eleven interactive classroom sessions focused on
nutrition and behavior modification, followed later
in each week by a fitness counseling and group activity
session.
- Easy-to-use, Web-based software to monitor your
weight, nutrition and fitness goals (access to a computer
is recommended but not required).
- Three one-on-one appointments with a dietitian and
a final physician visit to provide feedback and recommend
next steps.
- Graduation ceremony to recognize your achievements
