In total I lost 160 pounds!
Paul's weight loss story
Paul lost 160 pounds with weight loss surgery at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center.
It took me three years to decide to have the surgery. I was in denial. I was almost 400 pounds and had to be weighed on a freight scale in the basement of my doctor's office. My work was suffering and I was going downhill fast. I was too heavy, out of breath, nearly diabetic and had to walk with a cane. I practically lived in my recliner.
But then I saw a picture of myself and I didn't think I was that big. My wife and daughter could have fit side-by-side in front of me. The first step is scary and that's admitting you have a problem and have lost control of your weight. I had tried everything else. Walking in the door of the first seminar was scary. But I quickly realized that I wasn't alone.
I now weigh less than I did in junior high. I never knew me as I am now. My weight had an impact on everything. Do I wish I had done it sooner? My wife and I were scheduled to take a second honeymoon trip in January 2008. She died of cancer in November 2007. So, yes, I wish I would have done it sooner.
It feels good to be out of the house. I'm looking forward to the future. My new life is not perfect, but it's a lot better. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center saved my life. I feel like I've been reborn. I'm having a blast!
