Graduate Medical Education

The Program

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center , partnered with University Hospitals Health System, is dedicated to the education of podiatric students and residents. Under the leadership of Dr. Gerard V. Yu and Dr. Michael Forman, the program has been recognized as one of the best programs in the country. It is currently a three-year medical and surgical residency and approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a PSR-24 +. St. Vincent podiatric residency is currently member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Center Application Service Podiatric Residency Match CASPR.

The St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and Saint Luke’s Medical Center’s podiatric medicine and surgery residency program was founded as a one-year program at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland Ohio in 1985. With the addition of clinical faculty the program now consists of three years of training in all conditions and treatments of the foot and ankle.

The program was moved to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center /Saint Luke’s Medical Center in 1999 due to the closing of the Mt. Sinai Medical Center.

Philosophy

Residents at St. Vincent are dedicated to fulfilling the mission of the hospital. With a strong emphasis on education and dedication to research and teaching, the program is highly academic. The residents and staff are committed to the community and provide services for an outreach clinic located at St. Philip Catholic Church in downtown Cleveland. Residents participate in monthly educational/screening programs at several community centers as well.
