Clinical Trials

The Center for Vascular Health at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is committed to finding new and innovative treatments to reduce risks for cardiac and vascular diseases.

Currently, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is offering the following clinical trials to patients who meet specific criteria:

  • AIM HIGH — A national study to determine the safety and effectiveness of two different treatments for high cholesterol and heart disease. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is one of 98 sites participating in the trial sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
  • ACCORD — The Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) is a clinical trial to determine the best treatment for reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with Type-2 diabetes. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is one of 77 sites in the United States and Canada offering this program. Enrollment for ACCORD is currently closed.
  • SPRINT— The Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) is a national study sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH) to determine whether reducing systolic blood pressure (SBP) to a goal lower than currently recommended will reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. To participate in this study, individuals must be age 55 or older, have high blood pressure and no history of diabetes or stroke. Participants will receive blood pressure medications, physical exams, lab tests, memory tests and EKGs at no cost. To learn more or to enroll, call 216.363.2732.
  • TECOS — Trial Evaluating Cardiovascular Outcomes with Sitagliptin (TECOS) is a clinical trial to determine true reduction rates for heart attack, stroke or death while using Januvia in combination with other oral diabetic agents. If you are 50 years old with Type-2 diabetes and have a history of heart disease, this program may be for you. Participants will receive all study-related medications, testing, education and support at no cost. To learn more or to enroll in the program, call 216.363.2732.
