Academy of Medicine honors Dr. John S. Collis, Jr.

Cleveland, OH—(May 4, 2010)—The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio presented Dr. John S. Collis, Jr., with the John H. Budd, M.D., Distinguished Membership Award at its 2010 annual meeting on April 23.  Collis, a neurosurgeon who serves as co-director of the St. Vincent Charity Medical Center Spine and Orthopedic Institute, Cleveland, Ohio, was recognized for his work in the Greater Cleveland community and for his outstanding accomplishments in medical research and clinical practice. 

The award states: “This is in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the field of neurosurgery; for his leadership and dedication to preserving patient well-being and quality of care; for his meritorious service to the science and art of medicine; for maintaining the professional integrity of physicians and the practice of medicine; and for the tireless and unselfish dedication to his profession. This award is hereby presented with the admiration and respect of your colleagues as the highest honor the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio can bestow.”

”Dr. Collis is the founder of The Collis Group. He has performed more than 13,000 surgeries. Over the course of his career he has created several inventions, including a surgical hood, surgical instruments for total disc replacement and a laminectomy retractor. Additionally, he has written numerous articles for various publications and has lectured to students, residents and postgraduate doctors. He maintains an active neurosurgical practice.
