St. Vincent Charity's Patricia Terstenyak is Komen Award Recipient

6/2/2011

Hosted by Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Northeast Ohio Affiliate, the annual Power of a Promise Appreciation Event occurred on May 19, 2011, at Corporate College East. Recognizing select individuals and organizations, the event extends Komen Northeast Ohio Affiliate’s thanks for the award recipients’ outstanding contributions to the fight against breast cancer.

This year, Patricia Terstenyak received the Promise of One Award. This award recognizes an individual volunteer who has been involved with Komen Northeast Ohio for a minimum of one year and has made a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the Komen promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

With a background in public health, Terstenyak pioneered the Komen Community Representative program, a group of dedicated volunteers that promote breast health in the local community. Through Terstenyak’s efforts, the program has become one of the Affiliate’s most successful initiatives, educating almost 7800 women at health fairs, speaking engagements, and community fundraising partner events last year. A true asset to the Komen team, Terstenyak continues to serve as the KCR Sub-Committee Chair and KCR training co-facilitator.
