Clinical Research Study to be Conducted at St. Vincent Charity Hospital

Participants Needed to Enhance Type 2 Diabetes Treatment

Cleveland, OH (September 2007) – St. Vincent Charity Hospital’s Center for Vascular Health is looking for participants for a six-month clinical research study. Inhale, a liquid-inhaled insulin, is in its third phase of study for FDA approval for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The product was created by Novo Nordisk, the world’s largest supplier of diabetes care products.

“This is an exciting time in which new and novel insulin delivery systems and devices are being developed,” said Laurie S. Sadler, M.D., Medical Director and Site Principal Investigator, Center for Vascular Health, St. Vincent Charity Hospital. “These new systems give patients more options to treat their diabetes if they are on oral medications or if they experience uncontrolled type 2 diabetes symptoms. These methods are especially encouraging for patients that are needle phobic.”

Participants for this voluntary study must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Currently taking two or more oral medications for two months or more for the treatment of type 2 diabetes
  • Not currently taking/never have taken insulin
  • Have been a non-smoker for at least six months
  • Able to operate a large device for insulin intake before each meal
  • Able to commit to the study for all six months
  • Must attend nine study-related checkups at The Center for Vascular Health at St. Vincent Charity Hospital and participate in phone evaluations between Hospital visits

Participants in this study will receive all study-related care, medications, supplies, strips and laboratory work provided to them at no cost.
